Friggin' Foundation!

The foundation has been poured!! Holy - this house looks small - Complex!! The house is 2331 sq.ft, which isn't small (not huge either) but nothing makes your house look smaller than just having a flat cement foundation on the ground, with no walls. We took the dogs by the house one day and we let them on the cement portion of the house and they made it look even smaller!  I know that it's just a mind game, but boy is it weird!

Here are some pictures I took with my iPhone: January 9th, 2015

...and for fun, here are a couple before and after pictures of Paul and I - from before they started to after the foundation was poured.

 Catch ya later!

New Home - Footing and Stem Wall

Watching the home building process is pretty interesting... although Paul and I don't prop chairs up and watch as they build, we do stop by the house 1 to 2 times per week to check the progress. I never really understood how the process was done and always found it fascinating, so watching to process is very enlightening.

After they recompacted the pad, they started with was the footing - this is where they line the ground with a cement-rock mixture. Then proceed with the stem wall directly over the lining- where they lined the outline of the house with wood planks and re-bar - then filled in with cement. ---- somewhere in this time, they dig the ground for the plumbing.

this is the footing --- north facing - those two spots in the front there are the pillars for the front porch.

New Home!

Just a little bit of a recap on the happenings....Paul and I have entered a contract for a new home! And when I say "new" I mean "NEW!!". It's a new build, which means fresh out of construction, no one else has lived here, no ghosts! It's great!

When we started our house hunting adventure, we kept our options open.  We looked at older houses and new builds, and were torn on what we really wanted. There are definate perks of a house that is a few years old. For one, the fencing is already in place, landscaping is done, window treatments complete etc. But unlike a new house, there may be unknown issue with the house that can cause problems later down the road, and most certainly, much faster than a new build.

That being said, we found an excellent option for us - about 6 months after we started looking (a few hick-ups which I prefer not to re-hast). A new build on almost 2 acres (just shy, 1.7 acres). The best part? The house hadn't even started being built yet! That means we have the freedom of choosing most of our options - including the floor plan! Floors, roof tiles, granite, inside and outside paint colors, all that good stuff!

We entered contract November 19, 2014. Here we are celebrating :)

Here are some more pics of before they started the foundation (we had them re-compact the pad to meet higher standards - an extra $2,000, but hey, it's just money right?).

(this picture was actually before we even made an offer on the house, but we fell in love with all that land instantly!)

Until next time!
