Windows are in!!

Surprise, surprise! There are windows in our house! We were not expecting that, but since we barely know anything about the home building process, it's all a surprise! ha!  It was just interesting to see that they put the windows in before the exterior walls are even up.

Below are a couple of pictures from February 3rd.
this is what our bathroom windows look like, we picked "rain"...it looks, well, it looks like rain!

the house :) It's moving along!
Along with the windows, this week the builders installed the gas line to the fire place and installed the fireplace!

I'll catch up with more progress soon!!

Septic Tank, Air Ducts & Waterlines - oh my!

Yes, we are building a house that does not connect to the sewer. If we were in a subdivision, I'm sure it's standard protocol for builders to connect the house to the main sewer lines. This house is not in a normal subdivision, it's in what Queen Creek calls, Metes and Bounds (I don't even know what that means)...anyways, we have a septic tank.

We stopped by the property and they had just installed in the previous day or two. We took lots of pictures so we know where everything is in the even we need to access it for repair, and for maintenance.

The builders also started installing the duct work for the Heat and A/C, and the water lines (the blue and red lines). We were lucky enough to get rain this week too, like all day rain, which never happens in the Valley, which got the house all wet... ugh. So, of course I took a picture of rain inside of the house - hopefully, it'll be the last time we ever get rain inside the house. Paul's expressed his dislike for it raining on our unfinished house. He's worried the rain is going to warp the wood frame. I don't blame him, hopefully no more rain until the exterior walls and roof tiles are all on!

Here's the damn rain in the great room...no more rain until the walls are up please!!

Can't wait for more progress!!

We Want Windows!!

As the walls went up and we got a better idea of how the house was coming together, Paul and I started wondering what it would take to get two additional windows in the master bedroom. Currently, the way the plans were drawn out, it only calls out for one big window on the center of the north facing wall. The wall that faces east has no windows on it - which seemed like a big waste! This wall faces the remaining portion of our property, why not have some windows so we can see all that land we bought!

So, we asked and they delivered!! Within 3 days of signing the change order (and agreeing to an additional $725 for the windows) they made it happen!

Here is an example: first picture is the east facing wall with no window, second is after the window frames were made!!

Yay for windows!! I didn't realize how much I really wanted the windows until they were there in the wall!

Oh yea, we also got a couple bathtubs in the joint!

Frame it Up!

Two words... The Frame!! They started building the frame and wow, what a difference, it actually started to feel like more of a home than just a slab of cement! It also gave the house a more spacious feeling.... I don't get it either, as you start to enclose the house with walls, it feels bigger? Nuts, I know!! It's amazing what a little bit of wood can do to the beginning of the home building process. You can really start to imagine where things are going, rooms are separated, doors are made, archways erect. It's great!

Below are some pictures from the process, from when they were putting the pieces together on the ground to slappin' that roof on. It's been so much fun to watch!!

Happy Day!! We have walls!

Here we are at another stage - we stopped by a couple days later and they had put up more walls and got the roof on.
